3 FJs, 6 People and 9 passes – 9 in 2009 summer adventure

For our 2009 summer adventure we decided to complete a 9 pass tour of the central Colorado Rockies.  The trip consisted of 3 FJs 6 people and the 9 passes.

Our goal was to take a circuitous route through the Rockies crossing the Continental Divide 4 times as we crested; Old Monarch Pass, Tomichi Pass, Hancock Pass, Tincup Pass, Taylor Pass, Pearl Pass, Schofield Pass, Hagerman Pass, and Mesquite Pass.

Our Friends Dale and Shirley as well as a friend of theirs, George, joined up for this adventure. We gathered in Colorado Springs on July 24 where we discussed the route and made the last minute preparations.

This is a trip that I have wanted to do for some time. When I was about 7 years old my father, who passed this last year, took us on a similar trip that covers a number of the same passes. Look for post and pictures from this trip over the next few weeks.

Tomas has lived in Colorado since age 5. Having grown up on the Western Slope of Colorado lots of time was spent in the Desert Southwest. Tomas' father introduced him to the love of 4 wheeling at an early age in the high mountains around Aspen, Colorado. While an avid Mountain Biker, Tomas and his Family enjoy adventures in the mountains and desert in the remote locations that can only be reached by 4wd. Day hikes are always a must when on the family trips. While enjoying outdoor activities he wants to share his love as a certified 4wd trainer and ski instructor. Tomas also enjoys caving and cave exploration. Tomas currently resides in Colorado Springs.
