Black Dragon Run – CM 2011

Descending into Black Dragon Wash

After a fantastic breakfast provided by the Wasatch Cruisers we left the Cruise Moab 2011 San Rafael camp for a run down Black Dragon wash to see the Black Dragon rock art Panel. Leaving camp we headed east to I-70 exit 131, passed under the interstate, then headed east on the frontage road. The route to Black Dragon wash leaves from this road.  The descent into the canyon provides for some great vistas.

Short Technical Section

Once in the bottom of the wash there are a few short technical sections that we had no problems negotiating even with a few trailers. The only problem I had was that during a transition from a steep descent into thewash was my tent bent my HF antenna that was mounted behind the spare tire. I’ll have to do some redesign work to prevent this problem in the future.

Black Dragon Panel

We arrived a the rock art panel and took a break to enjoy the ancient art. The panel has been defaced by chalking which is when the art is outlined with chalk to help highlight it. This a very taboo practice and is breaking the law.

The Black Dragon

After some time at the panel we headed down canyon and onto the gated access to I-70.
