I have been looking around for some time for a hard shell gear box to mount on the roof rack. I like to carry all my recovery gear on the roof where it is easily accessible. I considered the Tuffy roof box, but the cost is very high at $550.00. My second solution was a plastic shipping box which fit in the space but was not exactly what I wanted with a cost of about $350.00.
I finally had an epiphany and decided to consider rafting dry boxes. I found that Partner Steel makes there aluminum dry boxes to order. This was exactly what I needed, custom sizing so I could get a box to fit just right on the rack. I want the box to fit between the two fuel can that I have mounted on the rack.
The box I ordered had the dimensions specified as 35″x21″x10.5″. I also requested additional reinforcement in the bottom where I am going to drill the bolt holes.
I got the box today and it is perfect and a work of great craftsmanship. The box is designed for rafting so the seal is very good. The top has been strengthened with two creases in the aluminum. A durable one piece hing is used and there are cable stops to keep the lid from opening to far.
The cost for all of this: $334.00 plus $25.00 in shipping.
