A major holdup in our new build was overcome with the install of our new Front Runner roof rack. The roof rack becomes a platform for a number of applications and accessories. The rack is made from extruded aluminum channels that provide an easy mounting system for equipment and is manufactured to high standards in South Africa. The Front Runner rack is installed using a roof mounted channel system which distributes the weight over more of the roof.
The installation of the rack begins with installing the channels to the roof of the Toyota FJ Cruiser using the factory mounting holes. The channels are installed by first mounting the front and then flexing the Chanel, aligning it with the middle and rear holes as the attachment bolts are installed.
Once the channels are installed the mounting feet can be installed in the Channel using the included square nuts.
The rack is prepared by first installing the wind deflector to the underside of the rack. The attachment brackets are then loosely attached to the rack.
With the roof of the FJ covered to prevent scratching the rack is then set in place using two people. The feet and the rack attachment points are then lined up and loosely fastened.
Once all attachment points are loosely fastened, the for/aft rack alignment can be set by measuring the distance from the front and back of the rails to the feet and making the distance the same from the front and back. The front and rear feet are then tightened to the the rails. The rack is then aligned from side to side and all the attachment points are tightened.
With the rack installation finished I then attached the shovel, axe, and Hi-Lift brackets. These brackets are attached by drilling and bolting them to the rack so be sure of the location on the rack.
