Being out of the shadows of the cliffs, Day 3 started with sun hitting our camp a little earlier. With a hot cup of tea and a hot breakfast we watched as the sunrise moved over the canyon country and finally made our camp site.
The morning view from Murphy Hogback offered a wonderful panorama of the Maze and Needles districts of Canyonlands. The morning sun lit the red rock up in a brilliant color.
Once camp was packed we headed down the southeast side of Murphy. From the top we could see the trail heading off to the southeast along White Rim.
The day was a long one with lots of fantastic scenery along the way. The canyons are littered with spires and other wonderful rock formations. A stop at White Crack gave us a chance for a really cool walk out to the southern most point of White Rim.
After White Crack the road starts heading north looking over the canyons of the Colorado River.
We made Gooseberry camp at around 4:00 with time to get camp set before the sun set.
After dinner LJ and I had a fun time playing with the camera taking night shots of us and the stars. We also were able to see Jupiter and three of its moons. It was a great finish to a fun day of adventuring.
