May Adventure Trip – Day 2

Today we drove most of the Kokopelli from Rabbit Valley to Dewey Bridge.  It was a fun day with panoramic views of the mountains as well as the Colorado River and canyons. With all the rain there are has received over the last month the flowers were exceptional.

The day started with breaking camp and heading back to the main trail from the camping area. The section from Rabbit Valley to the Utah border has some fun little sections that would be best with high clearance.

Narrow section of the Kokopelli Trail

After crossing into Utah the trail becomes more gravel road than jeep road. It had been raining the past few days so there were a number of muddy sections that we had to drive through. One could tell that some people had started going around these sections which does not conform to “Tread Lightly” off road ethics. None of the mud was deep enough to get stuck in.

We finished at the Dewey Bridge and headed up the trail to the southeast side of the bridge to find a camping area.

After setting up camp, an inspection of the FJ revealed that our right rear shock had cracked at the lower mounting ring and had lost fluid and all its negative pressure.  I got on the cell phone with a shop in Moab and they were able to locate a suitable replacement that would allow us to complete our trip. The cell phone amp made these calls possible. I setup to pick the shock up the next morning in Moab.
