I finally took the time to finish my ARB Fridge Freezer slide out. The final item to finish was the cabinet that it slides into. The cabinet allows the rear of the FJ to be used for stowing gear with out affecting the use of the fridge.
The cabinet is constructed of 1/2″ square steel tubing and 1/4″ and 1/2″ plywood. The 1/2″ is used for the top. The exterior surface was then finished by gluing upholstery carpet over the whole thing. I also have lined the center portion with insulation to help keep the fridge cooler. I also now have a slot to the right of the cabinet where gear can be stowed. My initial design for the my old fridge had the right side attached to the cargo hangers on the side of the rear compartment. This configuration did not allow gear to be easily stowed in the slot and the gear got in the way of the fridge. With this problem solved I will be stowing my recovery strap bag and emergency pack on the right side of the fridge.
The whole system including the slide took about 12 hours to build with all the welding completed with my 110 volt wire welder.
The cut out at the rear allows for good air circulation for the compressor. I will need to be sure this area is kept clear when loading the back with gear.
I am very pleased with the finished product and feel that it will serve us very well.
