With many replacement upper A-Arms the joints are advanced racing type hardware and are good for about 15,000 miles. On my FJ Cruiser the joints had worn and the Teflon material had actually started to come out of the joint. I discussed this issue with All Pro and they sent out replacement joints. I have had good experience with All Pro Off Roads customer service.
The replacement of these joints took me about 1 hour and only a few tools. A pair of cir-clip pliers will be needed. I used a 36 mm socket to drive the old joint out and the new one in.
Here are the steps that I followed to make this repair.
1 – I jacked and supported the front of the FJ. Be sure to chock the rear tires.
2 – I then removed the front wheel and support the bottom A-Arm with another jack.
3 – I fully inspected the current joint and A-Arm for damage.
4 – I then remove the nut from the bottom of the bolt.
5 – I remove the top of the spindle from the A-Arm and then used a block of wood to drive the bolt out of the joint.
7 – The following photo show the cir-clip that that needs to be removed to allow the joint to be replaced.
8 – I now drove the old joint out with the 36 mm socket.
9 – I cleaned the inner surface of the A-Arm and then lubed the surface to prevent the new joint from seizing in place.
10 – I Used the same 36 mm socket to drive the new joint into place and then reinstalled the cir-clip. Make sure the cir-clip is fully seated in the A-Arm.
11 – I bolted the spindle back to the A-Arm ( I used the factory torque settings) , mounted the wheel and I was ready to go.
